Horizon Ag and USA Rice proudly recognize the 2025 Rice Awards winners — leaders whose dedication, innovation and service continue to strengthen Rice Country. These honorees embody the resilience, progress and commitment that define our industry.

A third-generation grower from Bernie, Missouri, Zack Tanner has built his career on precision, purity and a passion for seed rice. His family has farmed for decades, and the award carries special meaning as his late father was also honored by the rice industry. Tanner’s focus on meticulous crop management, strict seed-purity standards and mentoring the next generation reflects a philosophy grounded in family, stewardship and continuous improvement. His sons now represent the fourth generation on the farm — a testament to the legacy he continues to build.

A respected researcher and agronomist, Dr. Harrell has spent more than two decades advancing rice production in both the Southern U.S. and California. From identifying and solving key field challenges to launching the Louisiana Rice Text Group, he has consistently pushed the industry forward. Today, as Director of the California Rice Experiment Station, he leads variety development and supports growers through research that strengthens productivity and quality. His passion for rice — and the people who grow it — has made a lasting impact across the country.

With more than 45 years of service, Dr. Levy has shaped modern rice production through work in weed science, variety development, extension and farmer education. Known for turning complex research into practical, field-ready recommendations, he has guided generations of growers across Louisiana and beyond. His dedication to farmers, leadership in bringing agronomic innovations to the field and lifelong love of rice are why he is receiving the industry’s highest honor.
